Posting Policies for the Haverford Blog

The Haverford Blog strives to maintain an open forum for any and all posters to voice their opinions.

The Haverford Blog Team has noticed that some posts do not relate to the topics and do not contribute to the healthy exchange of opinions and ideas.  In an environment where anonymous posting is allowed, posters have the benefit of free speech, but also accept a responsibility to be civil.  We realize that many topics are controversial and opinions are varied, but believe that citizens have a duty to be respectful.

Think before you post!

The Haverford Blog Team asks its users to maintain a level of decency and decorum in their posts.  Further, we ask you to stick to the issues.  Please stay on the topic.

Registration

The Haverford Blog Team recommends that posters on the Haverford Blog register.  The process is simple and provides some benefits, such as:

  • You can edit your own posts.
  • You can send and receive private messages.
  • No other poster can use your name to post. You can select a picture icon, a tagline, and supply as much information as you like to other users, such as your email address or website.

The Haverford Blog was specifically designed and configured so that contributors could post anonymously.  But we advise users to register and post as registered users.

Posting Daily Limits

We ask all posters to limit themselves to 5 posts per day.   Think before you post!  We’d like to encourage more and different posters.

Removals

Censorship is not desired, but we feel compelled to clean up the nastiness.  The Haverford Blog Team will not remove a post based on the opinion expressed, but may remove a post for the manner in which an opinion is expressed.  All message boards have moderators.

In an effort to maintain this public forum in a more civilized manner, the Blog will remove posts for the following reasons:

  • The post includes a personal attack on another person, especially a non-public figure.
  • The post involves speculation about another poster’s identity.
  • Name-calling.
  • The post contains indecent language. (Note: the Blog is set up to immediately translate some commonly used offensive words into less offensive forms.)
  • Advertising (see below.)
  • Cross-talk between posters.  Many posts involve responses to issues raised by other posters, and that’s good.  However, many posts are personal conversational responses and do not further the discussion of the issues. Use private messages to other registered users to continue private discussions.
  • Unregistered posters will be more likely to have their posts removed than registered posters.

If, in the opinion of the Haverford Blog Team, a post violates one of these limits, the ENTIRE post will be removed.  Previously, the Blog Team had edited parts of posts and archived removed posts.  This proved to be too time consuming.  If any part of the post violates the policy, it will be removed.  Think before you post!

In all cases, the moderators have the right to remove any post at any time with or without cause.

If you post something that was removed and you disagree with the Blog Team’s decision to remove it, you can send a private message to haverfordblogadmin or email the Haverford Blog Team at admin@haverfordblog.com

If you think a post should be removed for any reason, you can send a private message to haverfordblogadmin or email the Haverford Blog Team at admin@haverfordblog.com and your request will be considered.

Of course, the Haverford Blog is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The Haverford Blog Team does not constantly monitor the Blog.  So offensive posts could be entered and not be removed quickly.

As it states in the Haverford Blog Legal Notices, “HaverfordBlog.com is an open forum for public posting, and as such, is not responsible for the contents of any posts made on the bulletin board (or “blog”).  HaverfordBlog.com makes no claims about the accuracy of any posts on the bulletin board pages.”

Expired Posts

We will review old posts and topics that are over 90 days old and remove or archive those that are no longer relevant.

Advertising

At this time, the Haverford Blog is a non-commercial venture.  No advertisements are accepted, and none should be posted.

Privacy

Registering will put a cookie on your own computer, which allows you to be automatically logged in when you return to the Haverford Blog.

The YaBB bulletin board software that is used here logs the IP address of anyone, registered or unregistered, who posts.

Comments

If you would like to comment on any of these policies, you can send a private message to haverfordblogadmin or email the Haverford Blog Team at admin@haverfordblog.com.  We will continue to strive to make the Haverford Blog better and appreciate your suggestions.
